Free Kindness on a Bike

December 5th, 2015 · Leave a Comment

I’m usually coming down Winding Way attacking the group or trying desperately to stay on someone’s wheel. Today I am at the end of a 100 km ride, and just taking it easy by myself. I can tell you with certainty that I have never seen this sign before. Lesson: Stop and smell the roses. Okay, […]

First time in Donner Lake

June 30th, 2015 · Leave a Comment

A well deserved break from our bike ride today: In all my years coming to Tahoe, I think this is my first time in Donner Lake. Patrick’s too. First impressions? It was cold, but pleasant after our ride. The bottom was way too rocky to even walk at all. I’ll take Serene Lakes any day.

There are idiots in cycling too

September 22nd, 2014 · Leave a Comment

Stupidest thing I’ve seen AND heard on atraining ride in a long time: (I’ve inserted the brackets for situational clarity.) “I didn’t think I was going to be able to sprint when I wanted to…” [because I had crossed over the yellow line into oncoming traffic and the car coming the other way wasn’t going to get out of my way,] “but he finally swerved…” [because I stayed in his lane and forced him to…] “and I was able to sprint.” I would just rather not sprint around that kind of mentality. I sat this one out.
