Memories: Those first five years of Slow Lane Journal
August 17th, 2014 · Leave a Comment
My grown sons, Dan and Steven, were camping with me in Council Bluffs when the sharp-eyed Dan found an Iowa town that had a certain appeal to us. It was McClelland. and it wasn’t far away.

Our own town
January 28th, 2014 · Leave a Comment
After a McClelland family reunion in the Missouri Ozarks in 1991, sons Dan and Steven joined me for a long drive home in a van. We would sleep in the van or pitch our little tent, roughing it all the way. We would enjoy the sights, visiting such historic places as South Dakota’s Mount Rushmore, or a whisky-tasting stop in historic Weston, Missouri.

The best birthday card so far this year arrived in the mail today. It was from my dad and came along with a copy of the newsletter birth announcement that he created, printed and mailed out 47 years ago.

It’s all Greek to Dan
September 10th, 2009 · Leave a Comment
Dan McClelland walked Sacramento’s K Street Mall at lunchtime Wednesday, dressed as a Greek fisherman and carrying a sandwich sign promoting the weekend Greek Festival. The walking sign man is reminiscent of depression days.
Organizers of the 46th Greek Festival are concerned about Furlough Fridays affecting first-day attendance. Traditionally, admission is free on Friday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., of the three-day event.
McClelland will carry his signs again today (Thursday) from 11:30 to 1:30, concentrating on the heavily trafficked K and 11th Streets area.

Life, liberty and the pursuit of happy-hour

Independence day was celebrated at the cabin with the Wassermanns and Petterle’s. Also Les, Dan, the Killers (Honestly, Amy when all three of us are together in one place at one time, can’t we manage to get a photo together?) Eva and Roger joined us with the kids for a couple of days too. It was a full house, but we had a fun week. We entered the usual float pulled by Mike’s jeep in the parade. Steve road the unicycle in the parade for the first time.

Giving thanks on Thanksgiving
November 25th, 2005 · Leave a Comment
We spent the Thanksgiving holiday at Dad and Gretchen’s place in Roseville, and I had much for which to be thankful. I was thankful that I got to play 9 holes of golf with the boys for about 3 hours even though Lisa threatens that next year she and the girls will
